Patch Repairs & Pothole
Targeted pothole repair and patch work for isolated failures — with an honest assessment of when patching is temporary versus when the base needs full replacement.
Problems we solve
A pothole or broken apron is often the visible tip of a deeper problem. We assess what is happening underneath before recommending a patch — so you are not paying to repeat the same repair next season.
- Potholes after freeze-thaw cycles
- Broken edges at garage apron or street tie-in
- Localized alligator cracking in one area
- Trip hazards for family or delivery vehicles

When this service is not the answer
Recurring patches in the same area often signal base failure. When that is the case, we recommend addressing the structure — see our asphalt paving page — rather than repeating temporary fixes.
What the work includes
- Site assessment of patch area and surrounding pavement
- Removal of failed material in the repair zone
- Base prep and compaction in the patch area
- Hot-mix patch material blended with existing surface
- Honest guidance when patch work will not last
Patch work is scoped to the failed zone with full removal of unstable material, proper compaction, and hot-mix blended into the surrounding surface. When Larry sees base failure beyond the patch area, he will tell you upfront rather than sell a fix that will not hold.

How we approach Patch Repairs & Pothole
Patch work starts with defining the failure zone — how deep the damage goes and whether the surrounding pavement is stable. Larry scopes removal depth and material type so you know if the fix is a season or a decade.
What you can expect on site
- Full-depth removal in the repair zone, not just a surface fill
- Hot-mix blended and compacted to match existing grade
- Clear call when the same area will fail again without base work
- Emergency and seasonal scheduling explained upfront
Good fit for
- Isolated potholes on an otherwise sound drive
- Broken garage aprons or street tie-ins
- Localized alligator areas before they spread
Usually not the right call
- The same patch location opening up every year
- Large sections with base failure across the drive
Timing in Pennsylvania
Permanent patching runs spring through fall; winter may allow temporary cold patch depending on conditions.

Straight Talk From Larry Diehl
When a Patch Is Enough (And When It Is Not)
A pothole at the surface can be a quick, honest fix. When the same spot keeps opening up, the problem is usually below the asphalt. I will tell you if you are throwing good money at a temporary patch.

Common questions
Patching runs spring through fall when temperatures support proper compaction. Emergency cold patches may be possible in winter depending on conditions — call and we will advise honestly.
New asphalt weathers differently at first. The repair will be visible initially but blends over time. We explain what to expect before work starts.
It depends on base condition under the patch. Surface-only damage on a sound base can last years. Patches over failing base often return within a season — Larry will tell you which case you have.
